Synthetic biology and your novel
Attention NaNoWriMo participants: there’s a nifty project going on through International Genetically Engineered Machines (iGem) that will feature NaNoWriMo novels related to synthetic biology. In other words, if you’re writing the next Frankenstein or Leviathan (the one by Scott Westerfeld, not Thomas Hobbes), they want to follow your progress throughout November! Here’s a description from the project leader:
Does your story feature synthetic biology? Do humans take nature into their own hands? Through the power of science and technology, do humans create all sorts of unimaginable creatures for incredible purposes? If so, we want to showcase your work at iGEM. iGEM is the premiere synthetic biology competition for university students and hundreds of teams world-wide come up with novel and exciting research projects to compete each year in November. We ask interested NaNoWriMo participants to let us showcase your synthetic biology novels on our website and allow us to follow your stories throughout the month of November. You can also find great ideas to incorporate into your novel by browsing through the many iGEM project websites! For more information, please contact ubcigem@gmail.com
You can contact the project leader through the email address above if you’re interested. The deadline to contact her is October 24 if you’d like to be featured. Be sure to let us know if you collaborate with them - we love to hear about all the different ways that NaNoWriMo participants connect with exciting new projects.
